General

Youle Tea Mountain is one of the so-called Six Famous Tea Mountains. It is located in Mengla County, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, southern Yunnan. These six famous tea mountains are all located in the eastern part of Xishuangbanna, and the teas from their leaf material are classics of pu'er tea. They have become important centers of pu'er tea production throughout history.

This tea

This 2013 sheng pu'er is produced from the tea leaf material of Youle Tea Mountain. The tea is produced by a small local tea factory in Youle area, Youle Shan Da Ziran Cha Chang. The tea cakes weigh 357g. The tea is slightly aged and offers a nice and light tarry tone.

Taste

The dry tea has a slightly tarry scent. It has a fresh sweetness and a unique earthiness. In the cup, the aroma is still fresh tarry and syrupy woody. The tea is pleasantly mellow and sweet in the mouth. The taste has a mix of tarryness and sweet woodiness. In the aftertaste, the taste becomes minerally sweet and slightly rooty.

Infusion

Detach the leaves from the pressed tea with a sharp tool for infusion. You can use a kitchen knife, for example. The spike-like shape works best, as it breaks the leaves less. Boiled water is used to brew Pu'er tea. About 3-5 grams of leaves are needed, or a generous tablespoon of loose tea. Tea can be brewed using the so-called gongfu technique, using a teapot of less than 300ml and steeping the leaves several times. In this case, the length of the steeping should be about 30-60 seconds. The amount of leaves can also be increased, in which case the steeping time can be reduced to 10-20 seconds. If you have a larger teapot or only want to brew one time, the steeping time should be 3-5 minutes. Adjust the amount of leaves to achieve the desired strength.
