Yi Hong is a black tea from Hubei Province, China, that usually serves up a dry woody and spicy character. This grade is our second batch of this tea in 2025. The dry tea has an aroma of rich wood, toasted bread and dried fruits. In the cup, the aroma is very similar in its lusciousness. The taste is mouth-watering. It is filled with toasty umami, dry wood and light minerality.

General
Yi Hong is a significant red tea(Western 'black' tea) from Hubei Province. Hong means red and Yi is the same character as in the name of the city of Yi Chang. The tea is named after the city of Yi Chang, as the city was a major trading place for this tea when its production began in the 19th century. In reality, the teas marketed under the Yi Hong name are produced in the active tea-producing areas of Hubei Province, in Enshi and Yi Chang prefectures in the western and southern parts of the province.

This quality represents of good average of Yi Hong from this size of opened leaf buds. The tea is from the 2025 spring harvest. The tea is the second batch of this tea from the 2025 harvest. In this batch no. 2 the taste is fuller and sweeter while the previous batch is more of a traditional dry and spicy style.
Taste
The dry tea has an aroma of rich wood, toasted bread and dried fruits. In the cup, the aroma is very similar in its lusciousness. The taste is mouth-watering. It is filled with toasty umami, dry wood and light minerality.
Infusion
A generous tablespoon of tea leaves is needed. Use boiled water for infusion. If the tea is made in a pot of less than half a liter, you can brew the leaves a few times with this amount of leaves. It is better to do one longer steeping in a larger pot. In a small pot, the steeping time is 1-3 minutes and in a larger pot, 3-5 minutes. Adjust the amount of leaves and the infusion time according to your taste.
