Xinyang Mao Jian AAA (2025)

Xinyang Mao Jian is the most famous type of tea from the central Chinese province of Henan. The tea is often found on the lists of the ten most famous Chinese teas. It is produced in Xinyang County of the province. The tea is Mao Jian type. This means that it consists of buds or small leaves with a hair covering which is typical for young tea leaves. This hair cover protects the leaves from insects and UV rays. In the infused tea, this hair comes off the leaves and creates a hazy looking tea. This haze also continues in the taste of the tea, which in this respect resembles Bi Luo Chun green tea.

This tea was harvested at the end of March 2025. The leaves are particularly small and shape of thin needles. There is plenty of fine hair on the surface. The tea has a lively character and that's why you have to be careful with the infusion! By Xinyang Mao Jian's standards, this is top-tier tea and in our opinion the finest green tea in China.

Infusion

This is a pretty strong green tea, so it's good to adjust the amount of leaves according to taste. Use about 2g (tablespoon) of leaves. The water temperature should be around 80-90 degrees. The appropriate length of the infusion is 1-2 minutes. The parameters must be adapted when using, for example, a large brewing vessel of more than half a liter.
