Ju You 2021 Yue Guang Mei Ren
Yue Guang Mei Ren, or Moonlight Beauty, is like a hybrid of white tea and sheng pu'er. The leaves are not roasted and rolled like in sheng pu'er, but are allowed to dry more slowly. The tea leaves are from the Jinggu region of Yunnan and pressed into cakes like pu'er. The scent of the dry tea is newspaper-like, rooty sweet and honeyed. The aroma in the cup is aromatically woody and honeyed. The taste is fresh woody, birchbark-like with mild honey and dry spices.
Details
General
Yue Guang Mei Ren, or Moonlight Beauty, is white tea similar to sheng pu'er produced in Yunnan. It is produced on the same tea mountains as pu'er tea. However, unlike sheng pu'er, the leaves are not rolled and roasted after picking, but are simply sun-dried. The leaf remains flatter. As these teas are Yunnan leaf material and therefore have characteristics flavor of both sheng pu'er and white tea. These teas can be aged, which changes the taste slightly in the same way as the more traditional white teas from Fujian province. The leaf material from Yunnan province is somewhat more rooty and honeyed in tone.
Ju You is a smaller pu'er producer, whose tea selection mainly covers teas from the Yiwu tea production area. In the late 1900s, the factory operated as a local production facility for the state-owned pu'er tea company CNNP, which mainly processed tea from the Yiwu region. The company now operates as a private company. The producer is one of our favorites, as all the cakes pressed by the producer show exceptionally high quality workmanship. The leaf material is largely intact and the traditional stone-pressed cake pressing is done with just the right amount of force so that the tea can be easily separated from the cake without using too much force. In addition, the producer is very good at sourcing tea leaf material. Tea grown elsewhere than Yiwu is also of high quality. The producer's long experience and contacts are behind all this.
This tea
This tea is from the spring harvest of 2021. The tea is produced from leaf material from the Jinggu region. The region is known for its bush variety with particularly plump and hairy buds. Thanks to this, also this tea has a generous amount of silvery hair and plump buds. The tea is pressed into cakes weighing 357g. We also sell the tea in 50g bag, where the leaf material is separated from the whole cake and bagged.
Taste
The scent of the dry tea is newspaper-like, rooty sweet and honeyed. The smell in the cup is aromatically woody and honeyed. The taste is fresh woody, birchbark-like with mild honey and dry spices.
Infusion
Remove the leaves from the pressed cake with a sharp tool. You can use a kitchen knife, for example. The spike-like shape works best, as it breaks the leaves less. Boiled water is used to infuse Pu'er tea. You need about 3-5 grams of leaves, which is a generous tablespoon of loose tea. The tea can be brewed using the so-called gongfu method, using a teapot of less than 300ml and brewing the leaves several times. In this case, the length of the infusion should be about 30-60 seconds. The amount of leaves can also be increased, which can reduce the infusion time to 10-20 seconds. If you have a larger teapot or only want to make one infusion, the brewing time should be 3-5 minutes. Adjust the amount of leaves to achieve the desired strength.
