Details
General
The Halpewatte tea factory is located on the eastern slopes of the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka in the Uva district. The tea gardens are located at an altitude of just over 1000m. The tea gardens in the Uva district are generally classified as mid-altitude tea gardens in the Sri Lankan tea production altitude classification.
This tea
The tea consists of the small Halpewatte leaf and dried ginger, which appears pale in the tea. No synthetic ingredients have been used in the tea.
Taste
The aroma of the dry tea is dominated by ginger. It could be described as slightly spicy and sweet in a way. The aroma of the brewed tea also highlights spicy ginger. In addition, there is a spiciness and the red fruitiness of the tea. The taste is with red fruits, and the hotness of the ginger comes out strongly in the background. In the aftertaste, ginger leaves a hot glow and the tea, in turn with taste of fresh red fruitiness.
Infusion
Sri Lankan teas are at their best when they are infused for a slightly longer time and the leaves are steeped only once. Use boiled water. You need about 1 tbsp of leaves per tea drinker. The length of the steeping is 2-5 minutes, it is also possible to adjust the time depending on how strong you want the tea. A five-minute steeping brings with it a more tannic tone, while a tea steeped for 2-3 minutes remains lighter.
