General

Hunan province is a very diverse tea-producing region. The province produces excellent green tea and perhaps the most famous yellow tea. In addition, the province produces a whole range of different fermented dark teas. The province has perhaps an even more glamorous history of tea production, as in past centuries the tea from the province has been considered the best in the country.

This tea

Huang Jin Cha or Golden Tea is a fine green tea produced in the Bao Jing County area of ​​western Hunan. Often the tea production area is attached to its name, giving it the long form Bao Jing Huang Jin Cha. The tea is based on the local tea bush variety of the region. The popularity of this tea has greatly increased in recent decades, although it has a history of several centuries. This quality is the benchmark for this tea, from the very best. The tea is a 2025 spring harvest. The leaf size is quite small and the tea has a delicate, clean taste. This is kind of a super version of the tea with which we won the Green Tea of ​​the Year 2026 competition at the Helsinki Coffee Festival.

Taste

The aroma is wonderfully gooseberry-like. The taste is richly vegetal and sweet with slightly umami.

Infusion

Use a generous tablespoon of leaves. The water temperature is 80-85 degrees, which can be achieved by adding about 20% cold water to boiled water. In a teapot under 500ml, you can make a few 1-2 minute infusions. In a larger teapot, the brewing time should be approx. 2-4 minutes.
